Andrés Iniesta critica a Rubiales por perjudicar la imagen del fútbol español a nivel mundial

Andrés Iniesta, the Albacete football player and current attacking midfielder for Emirates FC, has expressed his disappointment with the suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. Iniesta stated that Rubiales has «clung to his position», his behavior has been «unacceptable», and he is «harming the image of our country and our football worldwide».

«We have had to endure a president who has clung to his position, who has not admitted that his behavior has been unacceptable, and who is damaging the image of our country and our football worldwide,» Iniesta said on Sunday through his social media channels.

«After what has happened this week, I would like to express my sadness as a person, a father of three daughters, a husband, and a football player, regarding the events we are witnessing in our football and around the Spanish women’s national team,» said Iniesta, the scorer of the goal that gave Spain the 2010 Men’s World Cup.

«I believe we cannot tolerate actions like the ones we have seen, which have tarnished such a great milestone as winning a World Cup. I cannot imagine the feelings that all the players of the national team must have right now, seeing how the focus is not on the great tournament they played and the fantastic football they showed us,» he added.

«It’s a shame that a beautiful story, which has been built by so many players over the years, has been tarnished,» Iniesta concluded in his press release, referring to the progression of women’s football in Spain that culminated with the World Cup title.

Andrés Iniesta’s words are a reflection of the disappointment and concern shared by many within the Spanish football community. The recent controversies surrounding the RFEF have cast a shadow over the achievements of the Spanish women’s national team, who deserve recognition for their incredible performance in the World Cup.

Iniesta’s support for the women’s team and his criticism of Rubiales are a testament to his commitment as both a player and an advocate for the sport. His condemnation of Rubiales’ behavior reflects a desire for a clean and fair administration of Spanish football, one that upholds the values of integrity, transparency, and respect.

It is crucial for the RFEF to address these issues promptly and decisively, not only to restore the image of Spanish football but also to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for women’s football in the country. The progress made by the women’s national team should not be overshadowed by administrative controversies but celebrated as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff.

Andrés Iniesta’s statements serve as a reminder that even the most celebrated figures in the sport are not immune to disappointment and concern when it comes to the integrity and reputation of the game. His words should resonate with the football community and ignite a collective effort to bring positive change for the betterment of Spanish football as a whole.
